Job Description

 

Title:               Applied Mathematics Instructor

 

Reports To:    Training Director or Site Manager

 

Summary of Job Description: Primarily responsible for providing trainees instruction in mathematical skills and concepts that workers in the construction and hazard waste industry need.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.      Instruct trainees in mathematics using an applied approach.

 

2.      Provide instruction that will assist trainees in developing an understanding of  basic math skills used at construction sites, and in the measurement of hazardous materials.

 

3.      Assist trainees in developing an understanding of hazardous regulations by studying units used in OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Association) Standards.

 

4.      Provide trainees with instruction that will explain methods of comparing measured quantities to determine ratios and rates.

 

5.      Instruct trainees on how to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.

 

6.      Provide trainees with instruction that will give an overview of geometric concepts that are important at construction and hazardous waste sites.

 

7.      Provide trainees with an overview of English and metric units of measurements that are used at construction and hazardous waste sites.

 

8.      Attend weekly debriefing sessions with Program Manager and WTP staff to discuss trainees’ progress in the program.

 

9.      Complete weekly reports on trainees’ progress during basic skills training.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in mathematics or at least 18 graduate hours in mathematics. Minimum of 2-3 years experience working with employment and training programs for the hard to employ in non-traditional environments.  Bilingual a plus.

Title:               Life Skills Instructor:

 

Reports To:    Training Director or Site Manager

 

Summary of Job Description: Primarily responsible for advising trainees on academic development focusing on program retention, program completion and employability skills.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.      Instruct trainees in the following areas: interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving.

 

2.      Assist trainees in professional and personal goal setting.

 

3.      Assist trainees in developing communication skills.

 

4.      Assist trainees in developing job research skills.

 

5.      Instruct trainees on stress management.

 

6.      Attend weekly debriefing sessions with Program Manager and WTP staff to discuss trainees’ progress in the program.

 

7.      Complete weekly reports on trainees’ progress during basic skills training.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors in counseling, education or related field, Masters preferred.  Minimum of 2-3 years experience working with employment and training programs for the hard to employ in non-traditional environments. Bilingual a plus.
