  I understand that a proposal for a New Business Model for Solid Waste has been presented to the Mayor's office and City Council. This proposal will present an opportunity for Detroit to start moving in a new direction, creating new jobs, building a new positive image for the city and potentially saving money.

Along with stimulating Detroit's economy this proposal will help to improve the environment and public health. Burning waste is very hazardous to human health; citizens living near the incinerator have asthma rates three times the national average.

For the sake of Detroit's future, health and prosperity, I ask for your support to adopt a New Business Model for Solid Waste in the City of Detroit.
